Heyo it's me Eli I'm back I'm really busy working on Soulchild now and I haven't posted in a while but I should make more blogs often here and upload sum cool pixelart

Quick update on the game for anyone that hasn't heard: we're now looking for a publisher and I'm working on it a lot here's a little teaser trailer thing I did

I'm closing my Patreon as soon as I can secure a publisher for the game because I don't want people to donate if there's a company backing the project up so yeah that's good news I think!

Either way I'll see you soon thanks for reading bye

Hi, I'm Eli

for more than year and a half I've spent the great majority of my free time working on a game, that game is Soulchild, it's the only project I've stuck to for more than 12 months, and I'm gonna see it to the end, I will die before I cancel it.

but things don't always work out the way you want them to

Since May, I've struggled with my current laptop to keep things up, classes, development, whatever I try to do, it's just not powerful enough and I needed an upgrade.

So since then I've been hunting for commissions and doing my best to save up to be able to buy a PC for myself, with the objective of having it before class starts, I got commissioned on a game called Odd Infinitum and to be honest, I owe a lot to Lee, the leader of the project, cause if it weren't for him I don't know where I'd be getting all the income I'm getting to get the PC

So as I shifted my focus to his game instead of mine, I stopped progressing as much, and I was supposed to send all testers an update on September, but I'm just not capable of doing so.

I don't even have a quarter of what I need for the PC, and I just have to give all my time to Odd Infinitum and other commissions, so...

Until I can afford all the parts for the PC I need, I have to put development of Soulchild on hold, I can't just continue working on my project knowing the income I get for it is not gonna cut it for the PC

I also want to use this moment to thank everyone who read this, everyone who follows me and supports me, and of course thank my patrons for giving me so much support with the project.

While I'm not working on Soulchild, I will continue to upload pixelart here, on Twitter and on Patreon, so be sure to follow me anywhere if you like the content, I'll go back to working on Soulchild when I have a proper PC

I will finish this game, and I will get this PC, I just wished it wasn't as hard

Thanks for reading, have a nice day

Continuing my way of making devlogs here being more about how I feel than the actual game itself, things are getting hard.

With 3 weeks left to start class again and around the same time to meet my personal deadline for the next alpha update of Soulchild, my lack of a capable PC to do online classes which I'm not even sure if I'll have because there's not even a clear plan on how classes are gonna be in my country, I'm stressing out trying to get a PC doing commissions to be able to afford it and at the same time working on my game because I go insane when I don't make progress with it

Everything is very stressful

I've been feeling on edge all of the time, hands and back hurt 24/7 and I can barely sleep, I feel burned out and I still push myself to do more because I feel like I don't have another option

BUT ON A MORE POSITIVE SIDE OF THINGS

Progress is slow but I'm not stopping, I've been working really hard doing pixelart for a project named Odd Infinitum

as well as advancing with Soulchild at the same time, Up there's a screenshot of the new area I'm working on, the eagle ruins, I hope to be done with the entire area soon, although progress is very slow due to the area being kind of big, and it needing different backgrounds depending on what part of it you're in

it'll be available on the september build that patrons can play, so if you're interested please swing by my patreon, you get access to regular content updates with more detailed descriptions and more screenshots/gifs on the game and access to the early access builds regardless of tier

But even if you don't join, I still appreciate your support and the fact that you took your time to read this blog post, so thanks for your attention, I'll continue to share updates here and on patreon, thanks for reading, I'll be back soon

- Eli

Hey, it's me again

I say I'd post more often here and here I am, I wanted to write a devlog, so let's do one

However I don't want to write devlogs like I did before, having the exact same devlog in both Patreon and here, this one's different.

I'm going to approach this devlog very personally and I'm going to be clear on how I feel, if you're looking for a more "This is new to the game" devlog, I have to redirect you to my patreon, the devlog there is public as well so you should be able to read it no problem

Lets get to it

When I started this project over a year ago I seriously did not know it would come this far, I didn't really trust myself to actually be able to pull off this project, but here I am giving it my all, and that I will continue to do, I feel like I owe so much to this project, I need to finish it and I need to make it a good game. And that I will do.

iu_150077_7003273.png

One thing I can say though, no matter how big and hard it seems to tackle this whole project, I'm glad I visually found a style that works and looks good, I have nothing to worry about visually, I know I can do it

I've spent the entirety of summer working as hard as I could expanding the playable part of the game, added new areas, new enemies, fixed tons of bugs and polished areas that are already in the game, I've made a lot of progress but no matter how much I do I end up feeling like it's not enough

I know very clearly at what point the current build of the game goes from "just the current alpha" to "the public demo" and I have so much stuff left to do to get it to the stage I want so I can send it to people and publishers to play

I work full time almost everyday on the game, all my friends tell me to not rush it, and I honestly could not rush it less, I spend my time slowly progressing making sure it's all polished and good, that's why it takes me so much time to progress, but I won't have it any other way

I am almost certain I will not have the demo I want for the end of september as I wanted, but that's okay, I just hope I can finish this game before I start studying 3D games officially in class.

I'm not really stressed about time, I'm just slightly bummed out, I'm actually happy to be able to work on my game so much and feel so good about it expanding, I just hope people will enjoy it and like the game itself.

if you wanna see what's new in the game, read this, it's public dw

Also if you have the chance, I'd really appreciate support on Patreon for the game, all the funds on there I spend on commissioning very talented people for helping me out, patreons get access to private devlogs and alpha and beta access to the game, if you are interested and can afford to help out, I'd really appreciate it,

either way, I appreciate you spent your time reading this, means a lot to me, thank you.

it has been so long since I posted here it feels weird to do it again, even when I doubt someone will even read this, still, I don't know why I feel like I should be writing this blog, so here I am.

During the past year I've learned a lot and continued to improve both making art and games, I've also learned to accept things as they come and become a better happier person overall, I'll continue to post things here, this time in a more positive note than I used to do before, I hope my work can inspire other people to do the same, I'm happy to say that I'm "back"

It's been a while hasn't it?

I'm really proud to bring you people some news about Project Silk, now with the final name of Soulchild

I'll be posting a devlog like this one at the end of everymonth on here, so be on the lookout of that, but let's get right to the point. What's up with this project? What was added into the game this month?

Well first of all the inventory was made from the start, previously it was a tiny hotbar in the bottom or top of the screen but that is NO MORE, thanks to the incredible help of Trixelized, the new inventory is a nice nice wheel that feels great to use

iu_73170_7003273.jpg

But it doesn't end here, I made the previously added mask obtainable via objects so you can well, you know, obtain them. As I was testing the game with classmates I realized most of them just ran passed the masks so I decided to force the player into getting a mask when they find one, resulting on a cute little animation when you get near one.

iu_73171_7003273.gif

Another super cool thing added is the spiderwebs that you can shoot when using the spider mask, this idea was originally brought up by the team like two months into development back in April and it finally made its way in, it's one of the most enjoyable things to play with inside the game and feels snappy and responsive. Additionally parallax was added to the backgrounds when this was added

iu_73172_7003273.gif

Also some other features were added but aren't fully finished yet like two other different masks, a save/load system, discord rich presence and lots upon lots of bug fixes.

Some animations were changed, Trix actually made an all new push animation so the old one with the weird blue ray doesn't exist anymore and we're all grateful for it.

If you want to know more about this project be sure to tune in next month with the new devlog, follow me on twitter (@retryeli) and if you want to support the game more directly please consider being a patron (link on the newgrounds profile) which will also grant you access to works in progress of drawings I make and weekly updates on the game, thanks for reading and I'll see y'all next time

Hi what's up? I'm Eli!

I'm an artist, voice actor and game dev and I'm here to introduce you to my project, Project Silk (it's a provisional name)

What is it about?

It's about a little guy named Silk who doesn't know who he is, where he is, or where to go, so he just helps people in search of the place where he belongs.

No, yeah, but gameplay-wise, what is it?

It's a 2D platformer where you can equip a different set of masks to change your abilities and go through different paths and most importantly, only use the environment to defeat your enemies because you are unable to attack.

Okay, who's making it?

We're currently just three people working on it, I'm making all the art, programming and sound design, a friend of mine is currently the lead music producer, however, we're still looking for anotther musician that can join us, if you are interested hit me up.

I'll be posting updates about it from time to time, so be sure to check it out, I'm posting in development gifs in twitter so be sure to follow me there

pre-alpha test of the game, unfinished visuals

Thanks for reading, see you soon in the next update!
